CWB organizes smaller communities and emphasizes direct personal relationships between the participants
CWB works through grassroots, local Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in developing countries. The NGOs have been vetted and make regular reports and provide accountability for the projects, for example the forwarding of school reports on children supported for educational opportunity (see scanned example of same) The NGOs help to organize communities, principally womens groups, to carry development activities.
The main activity is the support of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in African countries. Education is their main hope for the future. Over 200 children have been supported as of November 2004.
The principal founder, Dr. Richard Bail, was a consultant for UNAIDS in Zambia and 199 and 2000. His job was to estimate costs for the Zambian national AIDS program. In the course of this work he had opportunity to review and visit the work of 43 Zambian NGOs. Upon return he decided to see if he could raise support for orphans in the Mandevu Compound near Lusaka. The first donations for support of the education of these children were sent in the year 2000.
We are a corporation registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with a Board of Directors of 4 persons. (see section on “who we are”). Richard Bail, MD, MPH is the President; Peter Smith is Secretary; Peter Lloyd is Treasurer; Alvin Jacobson is director at large.
